Follow the advice of your tattooist
Aftercare can vary depending on factors such as skin type, location of the tattoo etc. Therefore advice will be tailored to
suit the individual.
Until your tattoo heals DO NOT
Pick or scratch the scab formation (the main reason for a ruined tattoo).
Sunbathe or use a sunbed. Re-cover except to protect from exposure to possible hazards. Soak your tattoo for long periods of time when bathing or showering
Until your tattoo heals AVOID
Sunbathing, swimming, saunas, dirt, oil, grease, etc. In other words use your common sense and treat your tattoo as you would any cut or scratch. Use only the creams or ointments recommended by your Tattooist (some creams can have an adverse effect on your tattoo)
Maintaining the appearance of your tattoo
Exposure to strong sunlight will in time fade your tattoo therefore if you want to sunbathe or use a sunbed apply a high factor sun block.
It is most unusual for a tattoo not to heal quickly if the above advice and basic hygiene procedures are followed. If a tattoo is not healing to your satisfaction then consult your doctor immediately
